Food Distribution

In an effort to provide and average of 35 pounds of food for each person living in poverty in the 26 area counties that we serve, we rely on our network of partner agencies and a number of different distribution methods.  We have also ramped up our efforts to provide a good nutritional mix to those who we serve.

Food Fairs

Food fairs are an integral part of the St. Louis Area Foodbank's efforts to feed the hungry in our service area of 14 counties in Missouri and 12 counties in Illinois.  The monthly event involves a one-day distribution in a specific county - allowing over 200 families to receive approximately 30,000 pounds of food. Food fairs offer a combination of fresh produce and shelf-stable items.

Mobile Markets

As more companies donate fresh products and bread to the St. Louis Area Foodbank, the Mobile Market program delivers them to our pantries for timely distribution.  The Foodbank delivers fresh produce, bakery goods and dairy products to our partner agencies in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County.  The mixed products are sufficient for approximately 50 families.

Transitional Housing

The St. Louis Area Foodbank helps more than 150 families yearly through this program by providing one month's supply of food and other household items to families making the move from temporary to permanent housing.  Any family or individual transitioning from a functioning shelter to a house or apartment qualifies for the program.  We accept referrals from caseworkers at shelters and other social service agencies which assist with housing needs of clients.

Agency Pick-Up

The majority of product distributed by the St. Louis Area Foodbank is picked up by partner agencies and transported back for distribution to individuals requiring assistance. By working with nearly 500 agencies, the access to food becomes more convenient for people looking for hunger relief agencies in a particular neighborhood.
