How to Conduct Food and Funds Drive
Determine Dates
- Determine the dates of your drive, whether it will be a one-day event or if it runs for multiple weeks or months.
Participants
- Decide who you would like to invite to participate in your drive. (Examples: co-workers, family, friends, classmates, teammates, clients, etc.)
***Once you have ironed out all the necessary details, please submit a Food and Funds Drive registration form, so we can help you with all the logistics.***
Promotion
- Advertising your drive is the key to success. Plan to get the word out about your drive early enough that people have time to respond. Consider sending reminders.
- The Foodbank has Food Drive posters available for download from our website. Emails, bulletin or newsletter postings and social media updates are great promotional tools as well!
- For use of the Foodbank logo, please contact us.
Collection Barrels
Our 30-gallon food drive barrels are attached to wheels, making them easy to transport no matter where you're holding your drive.
Our barrels are also bright red and imprinted with our St. Louis Area Foodbank logo, making them instantly recognizable at your business, school, church or organization.
Each food drive barrel can hold up to 125 canned goods.
Barrel Availability
The holidays are a busy time of year at the St. Louis Area Foodbank. October-December is our busiest food drive season. Barrel availability is on a first come, first serve basis. We try to accommodate everyone that wishes to host a food drive. However, due to demand on our limited resources, no more than six barrels will be allotted to any one food drive. This helps ensure that we maximize the number of barrels available to area organizations and companies.
Companies and organizations can also collect items in boxes, which we will pick up between 8:30 a.m - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more ideas on collection resources or to make special arrangements for pick-up or drop-off, please contact Product Donations Coordinator, Casey Milton.
Collecting Funds
Funds can be collected in three ways:
-
Cash
-
Checks - made out to The St. Louis Area Foodbank
-
Online - visit www.stlfoodbank.org and click DONATE NOW. At the bottom of the donation form, just enter your business/organization's name under "Additional Comments." However, we prefer that if you would like to collect funds as an organization, you just create a Virtual Food Drive by clicking here.
Both food and funds can always be dropped off at our warehouse during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm):

Why Food and Funds Drives are Important
In 2010, the St. Louis Area Foodbank Food & Funds Drive Program collected more than 1.3 million pounds of product from 343 drives. Collectively, through Food & Funds donations, the program yielded 1,214,017 meals* for people in need. Annually, we benefit from large-scale events such as the Boy Scouts' Scouting for Food and the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger! However, community Food & Funds Drives take place throughout the year. Businesses and organizations sponsor Food & Funds Drives to support our mission of providing resources to those in need. We have the staff and coordination necessary to make your event work perfectly. If you would like more information about sponsoring a Food & Funds Drive, please contact Casey Milton at 314-292-5761.
*1,374,031 pounds collected / 1.225 = 1,121,658 meals
$21,884 collected through Food and Funds Drives in FY10 x 5.17 pounds / 1.225 = 92,359 meals
1,121,658 meals + 92,359 meals = 1,214,017 meals
1.225 represents the number of pounds in one meal
5.17 pounds represents the number of pounds the St. Louis Area Foodbank can acquire per donated $1.00
